About Me
My name is Sharon Cao, born in China and immigrated to Hawaii with my parents at the age of two then relocatted to South Africa in 1994. This beautiful country is where I call home. I lived in Pretoria for most of my life. I graduated from the University of Pretoria and took a gap year to discover myself and worked at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
I was recruited by Standard Bank as a Human Resources graduate and spent 5 wonderful years there. I left the bank in 2016 to pursue my dream of being an entrepreneur. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit in me. The past two years have been a journey of growth. I have discovered some of my strengths, weaknesses and purpose in life. I also identified new skills that I never knew I possessed. The past two years also taught me about gratitude, attitude, patience, love and how to be a good listener.
My company is called Odd Wine Out, fully self-funded and proudly South African! I specialise in the customised branding of wines for corporate gifting, weddings and events. I also do team building events with wine as the core focus. These include wine blending and labelling, wine pairings and wine colouring in. To ensure that I have a unique selling proposition, I developed innovative wine products such as wine popsicles, wine ice-creams and wine infused salt. Odd Wine Out is gaining a brand following and it is now slowly expanding. My dream for Odd Wine Out is that I will be able to work “on” my business and not “in” my business.
I believe to remain relevant in society, one must be able to encourage change in one’s life. With the 4th industrial revolution being the hot topic, I would love to utilise my skills to help change the way corporates recruit, retain and develop employees. With my corporate experience in Human Resources, Learning and Development and my experience as an entrepreneur, I would like to bring a fresh perspective to corporate life.
